Can’t wait to try snocross? The SCMX Provincial Snocross Championship is proud to welcome the non-initiated young and not so young athlete for its 2021 season. At each round, categories adapted to adults and children with limited or no racing experience are offered.

• Beginners (trail) – 3 races experience or less (trail snowmobile allowed)
• Sport Lite / Vétérans – 3 race experience or more (no trail snowmobile allowed)
• Women (trail snowmobile allowed)
• Junior 10-13  / 14-15 / 16-17 years old (no trail snowmobile allowed)
• 120cc
• 200 cc (stock snowmobile only)

The Race Director has the right, based on an evaluation of the athlete skills and experience, to downgrade or graduate the athlete to a third category for the purpose of safety, speed, experience, handling or other reasonable concerns.

Junior class athlete graduation

When an athlete turns 14 years of age and is already competing in a Junior category, he or she may be graduated to a higher level if he or she meets the following requirements:

– SCMX’s Responsibilities

• The Race Director and/or SCMX Athlete Committee is responsible for the verification of a junior athlete’s racing ability.
• Junior athletes will be required to complete trial/race laps from time to time to allow race officials to monitor their progress about snowmobile handling and skills required for graduation.
• The graduation of a junior athlete is at the discretion of the Athlete Classification Committee and the Race Director and may be reviewed at any time.
• The committee has the authority to graduate, demote or deny an athlete a promotion.
• The decisions of the classification committee are final.
• The classification committee will not graduate athletes until all of the following parental responsibilities have been completed and signed documents.

– Parent/Athlete Responsibilities

• A junior athlete must compete in at least one full event in a class before becoming eligible for graduation.
• Before a junior can move up to a higher class, they must meet the junior graduation requirements set by the SCMX Athlete Council and the Race Director.
• The request must be made in writing to the SCMX organization.
• The application for graduation must be accompanied by all new consent and waiver forms.
• The application must be approved in writing by SCMX in order to be valid.
• Prior to entering a Pro level class, the Junior must be at least 16 years of age.
• Parents may request that their child stay in a lower class if they feel that the athlete needs more experience to develop race skills.

Rules for Junior 10-13 class

• Snowmobiles must be at least 1 year of age (2020 and older )
• Snowmobiles with the following characteristics or subclasses according to age may be allowed on the track at the same time.
• This class is for athletes aged 8 and under 13 years old. (It is not available to younger or older athletes.)
• Stock 600 cc legal production production race snowmobiles must be tuned according to the restrictions below imposed by the manufacturer for this class
• This class follows all general rules applicable to snocross by ISR The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) will be reprogrammed with speed limit restrictions (speed limited to a maximum of 6500 rpm).
• The throttle kit must not allow more than 50% throttle opening and installed according to the designated kit part numbers provided by the manufacturer.the exhaust valves are locked in the closed position.
• The primary clutch engages at a maximum of 4000 rpm. (measured with secondary pulley movement
• Step blocks may be used if required.
• Studs are allowed in this class.1 ¾ » tracks are allowed
• The hole shot preheat function must be disabled
• The models listed below are also approved to be on the track according to the rules and limitations listed below
  • 2010 -2014 Arctic Cat 500 Sno Pro with approved rev limiter
  • 2014-2019 4000 Series with approved rev limiter
  • Ski-Doo MXZ 600 with approved rev limiter.
  • Ski-Doo MXZ TNT with approved rev limiter
  • 2010-2014 MXZ 600 (Non-HO) Sport
  • 2010-2012MXZ (Non-HO) TNT with approved rev limiter.

The beginner category is the only one with Women allowing athletes to race with a trail, off-trail or cross-over snowmobile.

• This category must be the only one on the track during a race.
• Snowmobiles with the following characteristics or subclasses according to age may be allowed on the track simultaneously
• 600 cc stock production legal production race snowmobiles must be tuned according to the restrictions below imposed by the manufacturer for this categor
• This category follows all general rules applicable to snocross by the IS
• The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) will be reprogrammed with speed limit restrictions (speed limited to a maximum of 6000 rpm).
• The throttle kit shall allow no more than 50% throttle opening and installed according to the kit part numbers designated and supplied by the manufacturer
• The exhaust valves are locked in the closed position.

• Guides or cones may be added to the track.
• Tungsten carbide skis allowed.
• The left side of the handlebar may be straightened.
• The structural integrity of the snowmobile must be maintained.
• An extension may be added to the left handlebar. Maximum 3 inches wider, maximum 4 inches lower. The end must be plugged.
• Any separate front bumper that extends away from the body must be padded.
• The use of OEM Heli-Coils are allowed.
• All metal ski hoops must be padded.
• A « pulse line » may be added to the engine for the slide lubrication pump.
• A tachometer may be installed.Data acquisition and data acquisition systems are allowed.
• The models listed below are approved:
  • Arctic Cat ZR 200
  • Yamaha Sno-Scoot

The snowmobile must retain its OEM origin for the engine, hood, track, frame, seat, fuel tank, carburation, air box, suspension and clutch of the model provided by the manufacturer. Named components must be OEM for the model and year or original replacement parts properly classified as replacement parts.  Engine rpm and speed may be monitored at the discretion of the race director.

• All governor links must be intact, in place and functional.
• The original 6000 rpm speed limiter must be intact and functional.
• No engine components (including head, valves and cams) may be modified, changed or enlarged from the engine manufacturer’s original and no additional components may be added to the engine.
• The maximum cylinder bore for wear or repair of the cylinder must not exceed .020 inch (.50MM).
• Original OEM pistons up to .020 (.50MM) only are permitted for replacement.
• Blueprints of engines are not permitted.No removal action of any kind will be permitted. This includes polishing, port matching, deburring, glass or sand.
• No changes in engine dimensions can be made by adjusting the gaskets.
• Spark plugs do not have to be original.
• Spark plugs must not be machined to go deeper into the head, spark plug gaskets must not be altered, and spark plug indexing is not permitted
• No carburetor/air muffler changes are permitted.
• Filter material may be added or removed.
• Jet adjustments are allowed.
• Remote adjustable main jet adjustments are allowed.
• Exhaust must be original, as produced for the model.
• The OEM exhaust system must be used in its entirety.
• No internal or external modifications are permitted.
• No welds allowed, even for repair.
• Muffler components and/or muffler material must always be intact
• Wrapping of the pipe or muffler is not permitted.

• Guides or cones may be added to the track.
• Tungsten carbide skis allowed.
• The left side of the handlebar may be straightened.

Modifications autorisées :
– Peut utiliser n’importe quel moteur 120cc OEM de n’importe quelle marque, ou un moteur Briggs Modèle LO206E avec carburateur ISR, allumage et échappement silencieux.
– La motoneige doit être un modèle 120 / 4 temps disponible dans le commerce avec numéro d’identification OEM.
– La marque du cadre et du capot doivent correspondre.
– Le surfaçage du moteur d’origine ne doit pas dépasser 0,020 (0,50 mm) de diamètre d’alésage standard.
– Le carburateur peut être modifié, mais doit commencer par le modèle fourni d’origine par le fabricant.
– N’importe quel système d’échappement silencieux disponible dans le commerce d’origine peut être utilisé. Le tuyau de sortie doit

– La position maximale de ski est de 34″ pouces mesurée entre les patins de ski.
– La chenille doit être d’origine d’un fabricant de motoneiges de 120 cm3. (Ne peut pas être inversé).
– Les pare-chocs, les arceaux de ski et le guidon doivent être rembourrés.
– Le volet à neige doit toucher le sol avec le traîneau.
– Pas d’arêtes vives exposées.

Here are the general rules that apply to all classes of racing in snocross.

Safety and protection clothing:

• Functional safety switch (kill-switch)
• Tekvest type safety jacket or equivalent
• Safety goggles or visorSnocross, motocross, snowboard, or other high ankle boots
• Hood with visible or bright colors; orange, red, yellow, etc
• The helmet must be primarily flame orange or international orange.
• More than 50% of its entire exterior surface must be orange.

Bib identification:

• Bib number visible in the back
• Bib number visible on each side of the snowmobile

Depending on the main category you are registered in, your number plates must be according to this color chart.

Discipline behaviours and violations

All athletes are subject to disciplinary action for violations of these rules in accordance with the SCMX and ISR rules. Penalties may include suspensions, fines, penalty points, disqualification or any combination of the above. The character of the penalty is determined by the degree of the infraction and its overall effect on the safety and good reputation of snocross racing. The following infractions are subject to the penalties set out below.

• Threatening to injure or injure an official, an athlete, a team member, etc.
• Using offensive or derogatory vulgar language towards an official, an athlete, a team member, etc.
• Race without a snowmobile hood
• Racing with modified Bib number without SCMX agreement
• Race without a Bib number or identified clothing (exception: beginner category, 120cc and 200 cc).
• Receiving unauthorized assistance.
• Harassing race officials in any way.
• Voluntarily stopping a race.
• Unsafe driving tactics.
• Failing to stop for a technical inspection after the race.
• Not using proper safety equipment.
• Allowing unregistered athlete to drive their snowmobiles on the track during a practice lap or during the race. ex: mechanic

Movement in the paddock and starting area:

• Reasonable and safe speeds are mandatory in the paddock and starting area
• No snowmobile testing, calibration or diagnostics involving speed will be tolerated
• Wearing a safety helmet is mandatory on all moving vehicles including service ATVs and motos
• The driver of the vehicle must be secured to the kill switch
